PEPPERMINT (Mentha x piperta)—
Peppermint is an incredible (& delicious ) herb. It has a carminative and spasmolytic effect on the gastrointestinal system in particular due to it’s volatile oil content, to reduce spasm of the digestive tract and improve digestion. It has been studied extensively for it’s effect on IBS which is so common nowadays. It is also excellent for the respiratory system with antimicrobial and antibacterial properties and also influences cognitive function & exercise performance. Hence, peppermint was incorporated into RISE for it’s taste, effect on digestion, respiration and cognitive performance.
GOTU KOLA (Centella asiatica)
Gotu kola is a tonic for the central nervous system. Meaning, it can improve anxiety levels and improve adaptation to stress. However it is also a peripheral vasotonic, meaning it improves circulation to the small capillaries in the brain improving brain function.
ASHWAGANDA (Withania somnifera)
Ashwaganda is probably the ingredient I am most excited about in RISE. It is about all things stress. Ashwaganda is an adaptogen assisting us to improve our capacity to cope with stress throughout our days, and in the world we live in, everybody could use a bit of this action. It has also been shown to lower cortisol levels, our stress hormone, which can have various different detrimental effects if we have excess levels floating around our bodies.
CINNAMON (Cinnamomum verum)
Cinnamon is such a good all rounder. It is effective in improving digestion, such as reducing infection and weak digestion. It also has a stabilising effect on blood sugar levels which can reduce the energy crash we can experience when we consume sugar, aswell as improving hypertension (high blood pressure).
